The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum for the academic years 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17 to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding.
The Department for Education has doubled the PE and Sports premium funding for 2017/2018 to support the further development of Physical education.
The aim of this funding is to improve the Physical Education (PE) and Sports programs offered by primary schools, and is provided jointly by various government departments including Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport.
The funding allocated to schools will be ‘ring fenced’ – this means it can only be spent specifically on PE and sport in schools.
